TRiO Student Support Services

TRiO programs were the first national college access and retention programs that were born from the Civil Rights Movements in the 1960’s. TRiO programs addressed the social and cultural barriers to education in America. These federally funded programs began as a result of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty. The first set (or TRIO) of programs established was: Upward Bound, Talent Search, and the Special Services for Disadvantaged Students (presently known as the Student Support Services).

Susquehanna University’s TRiO Student Support Service (SSS) grant will provide comprehensive academic, social and cultural support, as well as financial literacy, to 160 underrepresented students who are first-generation, low-income, and/or disabled.
